Fitting Tip

Men's sizing in the US typically corresponds to foot length. Always measure your foot at the end of the day when they are slightly swollen for the best fit.

Introduction: Buying shoes online opens up a world of styles and brands, but it comes with a major hurdle: sizing. A size 9 in the US is not a size 9 in the UK, and converting to European sizing can be a mathematical puzzle. This Shoe Size Conversion Calculator is designed to bridge the gap, providing accurate conversions between US, UK, EU, and CM sizing systems for Men, Women, and Children.

Understanding the World's Shoe Sizing Systems

Unlike units like meters or kilograms, shoe sizes do not have a single universal standard. Different regions developed their own systems based on different historical measurements.

The Major Systems

  • US & Canada: Based on the old English measurement of the "barleycorn" (1/3 inch). Men's and Women's sizes are offset (e.g., a Men's 7 is roughly a Women's 8.5).
  • UK (United Kingdom): Also based on the barleycorn but starts at a different zero point. Generally, a US size is about 1 size larger than the UK equivalent (e.g., US 10 ≈ UK 9).
  • EU (Europe): Based on the "Paris point," which is 2/3 of a centimeter (6.67mm). This is the standard for most of continental Europe (France, Germany, Italy, etc.) and brands like Birkenstock or Adidas often use it prominently.
  • CM / JP (Centimeters/Japan): The most logical system. It simply measures the length of the foot in centimeters. This is often used as the "Mondopoint" system and is the best way to cross-reference brands.

How to Measure Your Feet at Home

Before using the conversion tool, it is highly recommended to know the actual length of your foot. Here is a simple method:

  1. Gather Materials: You need a piece of paper larger than your foot, a pencil, and a ruler or tape measure.
  2. Trace Your Foot: Place the paper on a hard floor. Wear the type of socks you plan to wear with the shoes. Stand on the paper and trace the outline of your foot. Keep the pencil vertical.
  3. Measure: Use your ruler to measure the longest distance from the heel to the tip of your longest toe.
  4. Convert if Needed: If you measured in inches, you can use our Conversion Calculator to switch to centimeters, or simply input the inches into our tool.

Why Knowing "Inches" or "CM" is Better

Brand sizing varies. A Nike size 10 might fit differently than a Converse size 10. However, the physical length of the shoe (in cm or inches) is a constant physical property. If you know your foot is exactly 27cm long, you can look for that specific measurement on any size chart.

Correlation with Height and Body Stats

While not a hard rule, there is often a correlation between height and shoe size. Taller individuals generally require a larger base of support. If you are tracking your child's growth or checking your own body metrics, you might find our Height Calculator and BMI Calculator useful for a complete health profile.

Retailer & Brand Disclaimer

Please Read Before Buying:

  • Brand Variance: This calculator uses standard international conversion charts (ISO/traditional). However, brands (Nike, Adidas, Converse, etc.) often use their own proprietary molds (lasts). A generic conversion may differ from a specific brand's chart by half a size.
  • Width Matters: This tool only calculates length. If you have wide or narrow feet, you may need to adjust your size up or down accordingly.
  • Recommendation: Always check the specific "Size Chart" link provided by the retailer before making a purchase. Use this tool as a reliable starting point.
